Trying And Failing At The Dalgona Coffee Trend
Have you heard of the Dalgona Coffee trend? Apparently a lot of people are making it on TikTok but I still don’t know what TikTok is so I found out about it from my friends that are my age and also don’t understand TikTok.
Dalgona Coffee, aka Whipped Coffee, aka Cloud Coffee, is basically an Instagram-worthy strong coffee with only 3 ingredients. It’s delicious, silky, and FLUFFY.
Quick warning: This trend is a little tricky and took me 3 tries to get it right (OKAY 5 TRIES!!!) You can print the recipe card below to give it a try, but first, learn from my mistakes and read on for some tips!
“Do I need to add sugar?”
Yes. I actually had to add an extra tablespoon of sugar. One recipe online even suggested adding 8 tablespoons of sugar! Try it with 2-3 and see if that works for you.
“how long does it take to mix?”
It took me 10+ minutes with an electric hand mixer to mix it before it even started to become fluffy. I could have (and probably should have) continued to mix it for an additional 5 minutes.
“I don’t have an electric hand mixer!!! Will I ever be able to try this trend?!”
Don’t fret! You CAN mix this drink by hand, it will just take a while. My college roomie actually mixed hers with a fork. She said, “my arm was sore afterward, but it was fun to try!” So if you’re looking to get a workout in while making your coffee, this is perfect for you!
“Can I use coffee grounds instead of instant coffee?”
I learned this the hard way…the answer is no. It doesn’t mix properly which means it doesn’t fluff properly and just trust me...it doesn’t work. You need straight up INSTANT COFFEE. There is #science behind this if you want to read about it, but to sum it up…it does not work.
“hmm…I’m just going to go ahead and use regular coffee grounds AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS…”
What did I just say?!?!?! Just don’t try it. It’s a waste of coffee and time and ends up looking like this:
“Can I add cinnamon?”
Sure! You can dust a little cinnamon or cocoa powder on top…maybe some nutmeg…whatever floats your boat!
“I’m strictly an iced coffee gal, can I make this cold?”
If you want iced coffee, just don’t heat the milk! Instead, pour the milk over ice.
Alright, I’m going to go clean this coffee out of my hair and off my dog. (Haven’t used a hand mixer in quite some time!) If you make this, tag @hayliesdailies or use #hayliesdailies so I can see your beautiful creation! And, if you have tried it and have any tips, please leave them in the comments so we can all learn together! Cheers!
