Today is an EXTRA SPECIAL #FeatureFriday! Today we feature COVID-19 heroes and helpers. COVID-19 has been a weird time, BUT there are so many wonderful humans out there who are helping to battle this pandemic. Whether they are working directly with patients, keeping families safe, making masks, or just doing a kind deed for someone else. Read on to hear about the heroes who were nominated by their family and friends!

ABOUT: “My mom is a pulmonologist and critical care physician. With 40 COVID-19 patients on ventilators in her ICU, she is up close and personal with the disease that many of us do our best to avoid daily.”

ABOUT: “Rebecca has made 80+ adult masks for essential employees and island community via her company Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. Additionally, they just got the green light to open up the preschool for families with essential employees, so Rebecca is hard at work making masks for the kids in order to open on Monday!”

Marissa

ABOUT: “Marissa’s WIC team at Lorain County Public Health continues to work very hard to make sure that women, infants, and children still have access to healthy supplemental foods during COVID-19. They have adjusted their protocols to keep families safe and healthy. All appointments are phone-based and they are offering curbside WIC card loads so that people don’t have to get out of their car to get their food put on their card. Marissa and her team are also continuing to provide breastfeeding support via video for moms-in-need!”

The Mount Sinai Hospital Acute Care Rehabilitation Therapy Team

NOMINATED BY: Team member, Jackie

ABOUT: “The Mount Sinai Hospital Acute Care Rehabilitation Therapy Team is made up of occupational, physical, and speech therapists treating patients on their road to recovery with COVID-19. Therapists are teaching them how to stand, walk, perform self-care tasks, cognition, and to swallow food/liquid again after their lengthy hospital stays. With therapy, patients are getting better and discharging home!”

ABOUT: Aly currently works in one of the COVID ICUs at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. On a day to day basis, Aly and her team are taking care of some of the most critically ill patients in the state, most of which are on mechanical ventilators. “While the work can be exhausting and heartbreaking, we are all pushing through and doing our best to help these patients recover. Our team is relying on our amazing teamwork and positivity to get us through these trying times!”

HAR Adhesive Technologies

ABOUT: “Over the past few weeks, HAR has produced and given away nearly 8,000 bottles of a WHO-approved sanitizer to family, customers, friends, and local agencies. At 8oz per bottle, this is valued at well over $100,000 in complementary sanitizer. Additionally, they established a HAR sponsored GoFundMe account with 100% of the proceeds going directly to a special fund for the Cleveland Clinic. The money will be used specifically for conducting research on COVID-19 to identify better testing, patient treatment and care, and possible vaccines.”
