A Cornucopia Of Blessings And Prayers To Read Before Thanksgiving Dinner
Thanksgiving is almost here! What a truly wonderful day! No gifts, no pressure… just good people, good music (psst… check out Haylie's Dailies Holly Jolly Hits), and good FOOD! 🦃
And, like many of you, we start our Thanksgiving meal by saying what we are thankful for along with a prayer and/or blessing. But, it can be hard to find the perfect one. So, I’ve #gathered a list of prayers and blessings to choose from this year so you can spend less time Googling and more time being thankful!
These short prayers are also perfect to read each day leading up to Thanksgiving. Maybe pick one at night to read with your kids? Or with a cup of hot cocoa?

Wishing you and yours a truly blessed Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for you all!
“For every cup and every plate full,
God make us truly grateful.”
“For food in a world where many walk in hunger.
For faith in a world where many walk in fear.
For friends in a world where many walk alone.
We give you thanks, O Lord.”
“God, Thank you for this dinner, and our family and friends so dear.
We truly do appreciate all you do for us during this time of year.
Thank you for the turkey, and the mashed potatoes, too.
Thank you for your grace, and bless us in all we do.
Amen.”
“Lord, you made a world full of goodness,
Filled with beauty, love, and nourishment.
Now as we talk and eat and pray,
We praise you Lord for Thanksgiving day.”
“In gratitude we bow our heads,
To thank Thee, Lord, for daily bread.
And may we use the strength it brings,
For doing kind and helpful things.”
“Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Day, we bow our hearts to You and pray.
We give You thanks for all You’ve done, especially for the gift of Jesus, Your Son.
For beauty in nature, Your glory we see, for joy and health, friends, and family.
For daily provision, Your mercy and care, these are the blessings You graciously share.
So today we offer this response of praise with a promise to follow You all of our days.”
“We thank you for the turkey, the gravy, and the dressing.
Dear Lord, this table overflows with thy abundant blessing.
Let us always be aware that all gifts come from you,
And may we serve your heavenly will in everything we do.
Amen.”
“Thank you for the world so sweet,
Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the birds that sing,
Thank you, God, for everything!”
“For each new morning with its light, for rest and shelter of the night.
For health and food, for love and friends, for everything Thy goodness sends.”
“Father, we thank Thee for the night, and for the pleasant morning light.
For rest and food and loving care, and all that make the day so fair.
Help us to do the things we should, to be to others kind and good.
In all we do, all we say, to grow more loving every day.”
“Help us to remember to be thankful every day,
To walk in the way that you have done and praise your Holy Name.”
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
“Thank You, God, for the food we are about to eat, for those who are here to share these blessings, for the generosity of our hosts that make this possible.
Bless those who are here and those who are in our hearts, and all those who are not as fortunate on this day.
Amen.”
“Our Father in Heaven, we give thanks for the pleasure of gathering together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food prepared by loving hands.
We give thanks for life, the freedom to enjoy it all, and all other blessings.
As we partake of this food, we pray for health and strength to carry on and try to live as You would have us.
This we ask in the name of Christ, Our Heavenly Father.”
“Thank the almighty, for all that He gave in life, for the food that you eat, for the people you greet, for the love in the heart, for that wonderful start. Thank the Lord for everything!”
“In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.”
“Thank you God for all that grows,
Thank you for the sky’s rainbows.
Thank you for the stars that shine,
Thank you for these friends of mine.
Thank you for the moon and sun,
Thank you God for all you’ve done!”
